Joseph P. Grossi was a Private First Class who enlisted in Altoona, Pennsylvania. When he enlisted, he was 21 years old, and the war had been going on for 3 years by that point. He died on the beaches of Normandy on D-Day, July 2nd, 1944, as a result of a landmine. At death he was awarded a purple heart like many of his fellow infantrymen from the 330th regiment 83rd infantry division and other soldiers of WW2. Also, he carried a few items which were successfully retrieved and returned to his family: 1 fountain pen, 1 razor, 2 insignias collars, 1 toothbrush, 1 ribbon, and prayer pearls.
